The Plus Side of Using Radio Type Advertising on Blogs and Websites
Then, the benefits of using music on websites were finally discovered. In the not so distant past, music on the Internet was just available in downloadable forms such as mp3.
Even through hosting downloadable music on their servers, companies were able to get a host of traffic on their sites. |
Most people who are involved in Internet marketing know that website traffic plays a major role in boosting the sales of products and services. This is especially true of websites dealing with affiliate marketing.
A drawback to Internet audio is that there has been many documented cases of problems involving illegal music downloads where artists, musicians and record companies have lost millions of dollars in potential revenues.
Enter: Internet music streaming! Unlike the aforementioned, radio streaming does not allow download of music files allowing the copyrights of the artists and record label owners to be insured.
How do you get started with streaming audio? There are several ways to stream audio from your site. First, is to stream a radio program from your site or blog. You can find free affiliate programs that allow you to stream their radio content from your site.
How will this benefit you? This means that your site will have new audio content every time a surfer finds your domain. Even better is the fact that the content of your website is being updated regularly with very little effort from you. Audio can be an exciting part of your web presence!
In this case, what you needed to do is to signup with an Internet radio station and have the link become a part of your website or blog.
Another way you can add audio is to stream mp3s. To do this, you will upload your mp3files on a server and add the links of those files to your web page(s). When the mp3 link is clicked, the browser opens a media player window and plays a file.
The only drawback to linking to a file in mp3 format is that it may also be downloaded by your visitors.
Use Caution: Downloading music files without the consent of the copyright owner is illegal. So, if you plan to use this type of streaming, make sure that you have the appropriate permit from the owner(s) to do so.
As you may have already guessed, there are many options to placing streaming audio on your website. One additional way to add audio to you web pages or blog is to stream music through organized playlists. Playlists are m3u files. If these files are downloaded they will not allow the user to play music when not online. The con of this system is that it can be complicated.
Step One - Save your mp3 or wma file on your web server. Skip this step if you know that the file exists on another server and know the link to that file. Make sure that the link has a .mp3 or .wma extension.
Step Two - Open your text editor and type the path to the file. Include the http:// and the file extension. Repeat this step until you have typed in all the links to the files that you would like to be included in your playlist.
Step Three - Save your new playlist with a .m3u extension.
Step Four - Upload the m3u file on the directory where the music files are hosted or to your server.
Step Five - Now, open your html editor and place a link to the m3u file. When doing this step, you can also set options for the playlist to auto play if someone visits your site or the option of letting your visitor have control of playing the music. This step is also where you set the volume level of your files.
Now that you have embedded the code on the html file, and whenever your site is visited, the tunes in the playlist will be buffered, streamed and played one after another. If your playlist has more than one song, the user can go back to a song in the playlist or even skip forward using the media player controls.
Setting up audio streaming in this way works for many webmasters. You can customize the type of music being played on your site and streamline it to the theme of your business or Internet service. You can even play recordings directly related to your product to boost product awareness (i.e. A streaming jingle maybe?).
The system outlined above for audio streaming will require some knowledge of html to be done but it many be a great way to increase traffic to your website. If you are not html savvy, you may want to employ the expertise of a programmer or webmaster. If having audio on a website is a proven way to increase sales then it may be worth the trouble.
